South Australia, Australia

After leaving Western Australia and crossing the Nullarbor entering the state of South Australia was a relief. We had some doubts regarding the Nullarbor but we made it through. The highlights in this state were the Ikara-Flinders National Park, returning to the city of Adelaide and Kangaroo Island which we had to cancel a few years back.

Overlooking the Bunyeroo Valley

Overlooking the Bunyeroo Valley in the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park, part of the state of South Australia. Initially we thought we could drive ourselves, but given the hot weather and really rocky roads we were glad we had a driver and guide to show us around.

Rock wallabies could be hiding in there

Our guide told us that rock wallabies could be hiding in these rocks that we passed while driving in the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park in South Australia. Unfortunately they were nowhere to be found, but these rocks really looked amazing.

Crossing the riverbed in the Brachina Gorge

Crossing the riverbed in the Brachina Gorge while driving through the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park in South Australia. Being the middle of summer and extremely hot there wasn't much water to deal with.

Found a few yellow-footed rock wallabies

We were really excited to have found a few yellow-footed rock wallabies while driving through the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park in South Australia. They are quite rare and were told that the chance of actually spotting them would be slim.

Guiding the emu chicks

We encountered a mob of emus to complete the varieties of wildlife we saw while exploring the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park, part of the state of South Australia. The adult one was guiding the emu chicks to safety when we approached them.

Ideal playground for the pups

We loved our visit to the Seal Bay Conservation Park on Kangaroo Island, part of the state of South Australia. There were quite a lot of sea lions on the beach and we were lucky that there were many newborns as well. This beach is an ideal playground for the pups.

A sea lion pup in hiding

We were surprised to hear some rusting in the bushes below us while watching the sea lions at the Seal Bay Conservation Park on Kangaroo Island, South Australia. Suddenly a sea lion pup in hiding showed itself preparing to go to the ocean.

Dropped on a dome

Approaching Remarkable Rocks in the Flinders Chase National Park on Kangaroo Island, part of the state of South Australia. Hard to imagine that all of this was caused by erosion as from a distance it looks like some random rocks were dropped on a dome.

The most striking

The most striking rock at Remarkable Rocks in the Flinders Chase National Park on Kangaroo Island, South Australia. This must be the one that gave the rock formation its name as it is truly remarkable.

Beach view from the rocks

Beach view from underneath one of the rocks at Remarkable Rocks in the Flinders Chase National Park on Kangaroo Island, South Australia. We were really impressed with how erosion shaped these rocks.

Weirs Cove

We had a lovely time checking out Weirs Cove in the Flinders Chase National Park on Kangaroo Island in the state of South Australia. Not really visible on this photo but there were quite a number of dolphins playing around in the bay below.

Wild clouds during sunset

After spending the day on Kangaroo Island in the state of South Australia we had the pleasure of being on the ferry back to the mainland during sunset. We loved these wild clouds during sunset.

The Mortlock Wing

Visiting the State Library is an absolute must while in the city of Adelaide, South Australia. The State Library spans across 3 buildings, but the Mortlock Wing is unequalled as a mid-Victorian public library interior in Australia. The wing iss regularly included on lists of the world's most beautiful libraries, and on travel blogs.

The yellow & blue doors

We loved staying in the city of Adelaide, South Australia. Had a lovely apartment close to the city centre with everything within walking distance. We especially loved the yellow & blue doors in the houses next to our apartment building.
