Western Australia, Australia

After staying in Perth for over a month we started our road trip to Sydney by first going south in the state of Western Australia, visiting popular areas around the towns of Busselton and Margaret River. Following the southern coastal route towards the Nullarbor we spent time around the city of Albany, William Bay National Park, the towns of Bremer Bay and Esperance, Cape Le Grand National Park. In order to see one of the largest goldmines in Australia we also visited the mining town of Kalgoorlie.

Below are all the photos related to this travel experience including the relevant link to the shop.

Longest jetty in the Southern hemisphere

We had a lovely lunch near the longest jetty in the Southern hemisphere in the town of Busselton, Western Australia. The jetty is 1.841 metres long and the end can be reached by either walking or by taking a train.

Beaches and rocks at Wyadup Rock

Beaches and rocks at Wyadup Rock near the town of Yallingup in the state of Western Australia. It's a stunningly beautiful spot that offers the perfect package of nature's beauty and adventure. Featuring a rocky coastline, crashing waves, and a small pool known as the Injidup Natural Spa, this place offers an extraordinary visual treat and an experience, unlike any other.

Waves crashing at the Injidup Natural Spa

Waves crashing at the Injidup Natural Spa near the town of Yallingup in the state of Western Australia. It was quite a challenge to conquer all of the (wet) rocks to get close to the actual 'spa'. The rocks act as a divider between the ocean and a lovely pool and the crashing waves provide the wellness experience.

All that is left of the jetty

While staying in the town of Margaret River we drove to Hamelin Bay, also in the state of Western Australia. This bay is well known for stingrays that come very close to the beach. A few years back we did not see any, but we were luckier this time around. It's a bit of a worn down place as this is all that is left of the jetty.

Cool rocks around the corner

It was quite busy when we visited Hamelin Bay in the state of Western Australia as many people were hoping to see the famous stingrays. While we did see a few we walked a bit further along the beach and found some cool rocks around the corner.

Barely passable

We really loved our time at Hamelin Bay in the state of Western Australia. Only an hours drive from the town of Margaret River it offers a beautiful beach and some interesting rock formations like this one. Barely passable but I managed to get through it where I found a nice secluded beach.

Overview of Lake Cave

A beautiful overview of Lake Cave, deep below the surface of Forest Grove in Western Australia near the town of Margaret River.

Lake Cave is reached by descending via a staircase through a spectacular sinkhole, gazing up at the towering karri trees from the floor of the sunken forest. Inside the cave, a tranquil lake reflects the delicate crystal formations that grow from the cave roof. Droplets hang from the tips of straws and stalactites – before dropping to the cave floor or into the lake, creating ripples in the water. A true marvel is the unique 'Suspended Table' formation, which weighs several tonnes and seems to defy gravity as it hovers above the clear lake water.

The suspension bridge looks safe enough

We spent a bit of time in the Greater Beedelup National Park near the town of Beedelup in the state of Western Australia. While we were walking around we came upon this suspension bridge which looked safe enough to pass. Nice experience to cross it.

Elephant Cove

A great view on Elephant Cove in William Bay National Park near the town of Denmark in the state of Western Australia. The combination of turquoise water, polished boulders and the beach is phenomenal to look at.

Awesome rocks in Elephant Cove

Elephant Rocks, a number of awesome rocks in Elephant Cove in William Bay National Park near the town of Denmark in the state of Western Australia. The water may look very nice but even in summer the temperature of the water is freezing cold.

More boulders further down

More boulders further down on the beach at Greens Pool in William Bay National Park near the town of Denmark, Western Australia. It's an amazing feeling to walk in between these giant rocks that have been shaped by millions of years of erosion.

Silvery reflections

Silvery reflections at Waterfall Beach in William Bay National Park near the town of Denmark, Western Australia. The name of this beach is derived from an actual waterfall, albeit a small on, dropping its water onto the beach causing this stream towards the ocean.

Spectacular exploding wave

I have always loved waves, especially when they are wild. This here is a spectacular exploding wave crashing against some rocks at the beach near the town of Ocean Beach in the state of Western Australia.

The rocky side of Central Beach

I spent quite some time on Central Beach near the town of Ocean Beach in the state of Western Australia. Since I was curious to see what was on the other side of a pile of rocks I climbed over them. I ended up at the even more beautiful rocky side of Central Beach.

Looking straight down

Looking straight down from the platform at The Gap in the Torndirrup National Park, Western Australia. It is just an hours drive from the town of Albany and a great place to visit, especially together with the Natural Bridge.

Cable Beach is hard to reach

I really wanted to go down there but Cable Beach is hard to reach and it would have taken me too much time. Great beach though in the Torndirrup National Park, Western Australia.

Goode Beach in the distance

Standing on top of Stony Hill in Torndirrup National Park, Western Australia. Magnificent views all around. Between the large boulders we look towards Goode Beach in the distance.

The Salmon Holes

The Salmon Holes in Torndirrup National Park, Western Australia. A beautiful bay with a beach enclosed by a tall, steep slope of granite and heath-covered dunes. A beautiful but treacherous beach. The view from the lookout above Salmon Holes is truly amazing and one of the most photographed views on the Torndirrup Peninsula.

Remote picnic table

What we find truly amazing in Australia is that there are always facilities wherever you go, be it waste bins, toilets or in this case a remote picnic table. This one was on Cuneo Drive near the town of Bremer Bay in Western Australia.

Perfect view of Back Beach

Perfect view of Back Beach at a stop on Cuneo Drive near the town of Bremer Bay in Western Australia. Even though it would be possible to drive on that beach we didn't as we did not have a 4WD. Just admired the view for a while which was great in itself.

Barrens Beach

Barrens Beach is just one of the many beaches along Hamersley Drive near the town of Hopetoun in Western Australia. This drive took us to all the main recreation areas in the south-eastern corner of Fitzgerald River National Park.

Blue Haven Beach

Blue Haven Beach is one of the first stops along Esperance's Great Ocean Drive, a 40 kilometre circular loop featuring a vast range of coastal elements such as stunning beaches, rocky headlands, small bays, steep cliffs and hidden ocean pools. It is located near the town of West Beach in the state of Western Australia.

The bay at Observatory Beach

Amazing views of the bay at Observatory Beach near the town of Dalyup in the state of Western Australia. Although technically possible the beach is very hard to reach so we just enjoyed the view from a distance.

Descending towards Ten Mile Lagoon

Most of the amazing stops along Esperance's Great Ocean Drive have facilities like boardwalks and steps to get down to the beach. Here I am descending towards Ten Mile Lagoon near the small town of Dalyup in Western Australia. As suspected I was the only one there.

Walking in the lagoon

Walking in the lagoon at Ten Mile Lagoon near the small town of Dalyup in Western Australia. One of the many stops along Esperance's Great Ocean Drive, the 40 kilometre circular loop offering stunning beaches, rocky headlands, small bays, steep cliffs and hidden ocean pools.

Overview of Hellfire Bay

Overview of Hellfire Bay in the Cape Le Grand National Park, Western Australia. Another must see bay in this National Park. A real joy to spend some time on the white sandy beach and to take a dip in the turquoise waters of the bay.

Gorgeous Hellfire Bay

While hiking in the mountains I had an amazing view on gorgeous Hellfire Bay in the Cape Le Grand National Park, Western Australia. This park has quite a few of these turquoise bays with pure white sand and there are usually no people around.

Almost at the beach

Almost at the beach after climbing the rocks around Thistle Cove in the Cape Le Grand National Park, Western Australia. Very rewarding to have made it and no-one else around in this paradise.

Leaving Thistle Cove

Had a great time figuring out how to get onto the beach without too much of a hassle. Climbed my way around it and made it. Lucky to have been able to spend some time here but it was hard leaving Thistle Cove in Cape Le Grand National Park, Western Australia.

Great place for some swimming

One of the most beautiful places in the world is Lucky Bay in the Cape Le Grand National Park, Western Australia. We drove our car onto the beach, took out some beach chairs and just enjoyed the amazing view. Also a great place for some swimming.

View from the road above

View from the road above after having spent some quality time on the beach at Lucky Bay in the Cape Le Grand National Park, Western Australia. Hard to leave this truly beautiful place.

Smaller parts of Lake Cowan

From a lookout we had a great view over some smaller parts of Lake Cowan near the town of Norseman in the state of Western Australia.

The Lake Cowan Lookout is a hidden gem on the outskirts of Norseman and sits as a natural wonder. The lookout offers panoramic views reflecting the skyline from its surface. Lake Cowan is a glistening salt lake meaning the water sits beneath the surface. It can be reached by following the Mort Harslett Drive, approximately 7km from Norseman.

Looking down into the Super Pit

Looking down into the Super Pit near the town of South Boulder / Kalgoorlie in the state of Western Australia. We really looked forward to seeing this enormous mine and it did not disappoint.

The Fimiston Open Pit, colloquially known as the Super Pit, was Australia's largest open cut gold mine until 2016. The Super Pit is located off the Goldfields Highway and is oblong in plan view and is approximately 3.5 kilometres long, 1.5 kilometres wide and over 600 metres deep.
