Wales, UK (2014)

In 2011 we met a great guy from Wales who was the cruise director on the cruise ship Norwegian Dawn at that time. A couple of years later he had started a pub in Wales called The Tiddly and we were invited to join a New Years Party in December of 2014. Great fun it was! While we were there we drove around in Pembrokeshire visiting some of the local villages and beaches. We really enjoyed this part of the world.

Flowing towards the sea

The day after we arrived in Wales, UK for our New Years Eve party at our friends pub we did some sightseeing. A little before sunset we visited Broad Haven Beach and we were glad we did. The low tide in combination with the setting sun was truly breathtaking.

Playful sunlight

Broad Haven Beach in Wales, UK was a truly amazing experience. It's a lovely sandy beach to walk on, especially around sunset. The low tide caused the ocean water to remain behind in small pools and as a thin layer on the smooth sand. We spent quite some time here admiring the reflections of the clouds and setting sun.

After sundown

We absolutely loved being at Broad Haven Beach in Wales, UK. A long, narrow sandy and pebble beach at high tide but at low tide a huge expanse of firm sand is revealed with plenty of room for everyone. The cliffs on both sides provide some sheltered bays. The reflections in the small tidal pools gave it a unique atmosphere.

Mirrored in the sand

Spending some time on Broad Haven Beach in Wales, UK in the hour before sunset. Never before had we experienced beaches that have such huge tidal changes. A wonderful place to wander around and admire the reflections of the setting sun and clouds in the wet sand. It truly is like looking into a mirror.

Stunning reflections

Broad Haven Beach in Wales, UK is a lovely sandy beach to walk on, a few cafes and restaurants on the sea front and the cliffs look quite dramatic in places. The water left on the sand at low tide provided a beautiful mirror for some stunning reflections.

Newgale beach

Our last day on 2014 in Wales, UK started off at Newgale beach near the small town of Newgale. We stopped at a small cafe to have a cup of coffee and went onto the beach to watch the kite surfers. It was very windy and the sun was trying its best to peek through the clouds.

St. Davids cathedral

I am not such a church person but our friend told us we just had to visit St. Davids cathedral in the town of St. Davids in Wales, UK. It turned out that the town itself was a pleasure to visit with its many small specialty shops and cute restaurants. By the end of the morning we walked towards the cathedral and were amazed by just the sight of it. The view from the top of the stairs leading down to the cathedral was breathtaking.

Fishing cages

In the afternoon of the last day in 2014 we visited the very small community of Porthgain in Wales, UK. Until almost 80 years ago there used to be a thriving quarrying industry on the Pembrokeshire coast between Abereiddy and Porthgain. Nowadays it hosts a small pub and people are relying mostly on fishing. We walked part of the Pembrokeshire coastal path.

Wooden bench view

I am always happy when I see a nicely placed bench. They are ideal to use in the foreground to gain some perspective. Here we were on the coastal path near the small community of Porthgain in Wales, UK. Great views over the Atlantic Ocean, especially with this dramatic sky.

The coloured bay

The coastal path in Pembrokeshire offers many great views. Here we were walking the coastal path near the small community of Porthgain in Wales, UK and we were amazed by the colour of the water in the many bays we passed.

Ruins with a view

The coastal path near the small town of Porthgain in Wales, UK offers some hidden treasures in the form of ruins. There used to be many red brick buildings from the time Porthgain had some serious industrial quarrying activity. It's quite fun to walk between those ruins and fantasize about the life people must have lead so long ago. One things is for sure, the view must have been magnificent.

Weather seems to clear up

The weather seems to clear up while on our coastal walk near the very small town of Porthgain in Wales, UK. Even though it's the middle of winter the colours here were truly amazing.

Unreachable at high tide

2015 started off great with a nice and sunny day, so on our last full day in Wales, UK we went to visit the lovely medieval town of Tenby. Many people took the opportunity to go to the beach. It was low tide so the castle on the rock was accessible. At high tide though it will be totally unreachable.

Bench overlooking the beach

For some reason, whenever I see a bench I always need to make a photo with that bench in the foreground. So when I noticed this bench overlooking the beach in the village of Tenby in Wales, UK I just had to make this photo. It turned out to be a really appealing picture of the nicely coloured houses along the beach.
