Flowering bulbs, The Netherlands (2022)
Every few years we visit the flowering bulbs in the Netherlands. We never visit the tourist traps like 'Keukenhof' but rather go out into the countryside and look at tulips, daffodils and hyacinths in the fields. Historically the province of Noord-Holland is host to the majority of bulb farms but the province of Flevoland is a good second. In April of 2022 we went to the area around Callantsoog in the northern part of Noord-Holland.

Yellow and the invading daffodils
The nice thing about going to the bulb fields in the province of Noord-Holland, The Netherlands is that it's not all perfect. I loved seeing how a single yellow tulip plus some white daffodils managed to get into the mix. It does make for a nice picture, doesn't it?
Gorgeous pinks
Admiring the bulb fields on our third stop along local road N9 in the province of Noord-Holland, The Netherlands. The fields here are huge and various red and pink tulips can be seen all the way to the horizon. We really liked these pink & white ones.
Pink close-up
Getting close to tulips in the bulb fields is not always easy. It is forbidden and considered to be very rude to enter the fields. Here in the village of Burgerbrug near Schagen in the province of Noord-Holland, The Netherlands it is possible though as they grow very close to the road. This way I could get to admire these tulips up close.
Pink backlight
Still strolling around near the bulb fields in the small village of Burgerbrug, close to Schagen in the provinde of Noord-Holland, The Netherlands. I was lucky enough to get very close to these lovely pink tulips without having to enter the actual fields which is forbidden and considered very rude. The petals of these tulips are so thin that sunlight almost shines right through them.
White with a touch of purple
A lot of bulb fields along the local road N9 in the province of Noord-Holland, The Netherlands have special colours. We really liked these white tulips with a touch of purple in them. It's really awesome to see thousands of them in endless rows.

Red with a touch of white
Tulips come in many varieties and colours. Here at the small community of 'De Stolpen' in the province of Noord-Holland, The Netherlands we found this field of lovely red ones with a touch of white. They would look lovely in a vase or even on the wall.

Behind a curtain of water
In between the small communities of De Stolpen and 't Zand in the province of Noord-Holland, The Netherlands we stopped at some bulb fields to see how they were watered. Flower bulbs need to have enough water to be able to grow best.
It doesn't get more Dutch than this
It doesn't get more Dutch than this tulip field next to a traditional Dutch windmill in the small community of 't Zand near Schagen in the province of Noord-Holland, The Netherlands. The endless rows of intense red tulips go very well with the blue sky and green vegetation.
Next to the windmill
The fact that these tulip fields in the small community of 't Zand near Schagen in the province of Noord-Holland, The Netherlands were lying next to a traditional windmill was really appealing. We simply couldn't get enough of this typical Dutch sight.
Taller than the others
We spent quite some time at the field near the small community called 't Zand near Schage in the province of Noord-Holland, The Netherlands. Even though there were quite some other fields we liked these red ones the best.
Picture perfect
A lower angle view on the field of red tulips in the small community of 't Zand near Schagen in the province of Noord-Holland, The Netherlands. The windmill next to the field really makes this the perfect picture.
Neat rows of purple hyacinths
Just north of Callantsoog in Noord-Holland, The Netherlands lies the wonderfully quiet seaside resort of Groote Keeten. Known for the widest beaches in the region. Peace and space are the keywords here, but it is also the perfect place for kite flying and kite surfing. From the village you can walk straight through the dunes to the beach, where you can relax.
Just behind the dunes we found a couple of nice bulb fields, mainly having hyacinths in white, pink, blue or purple.
